Do's & Don'ts
We need you to do your part! An important guide to some of the things you should be doing (or not doing) as you undergo your orthodontic treatment.
DO'S
- Brush your teeth after and before bedtime Read more about hygiene here.
- Floss your teeth daily Read more about hygiene here.
- Call the office if you have any problems with your appliances
- See your dentist every 6 months for regular checkups
- Use the wax to cover irritated lips, cheeks, or gums
- Call the office if you have persistent soreness
- Use the fluoride as directed daily before bedtime
- Bring your removable appliance(s) to each appointment (headgear, lip bumpers, and retainers)
DON'TS
- Do not play with your wires, brackets, or any other appliance. Keep your fingers, pens, and pencils out of your mouth!
- Do not wait until your appointment to report a problem!
- Do not eat any hard candy or sticky foods. Use common sense in choosing the foods you eat. Avoid hard foods such as peanuts, granola bars, popcorn, crusty breads, and ice pieces. Things like steak, pork chops, and chicken: cut into smaller pieces. Read more food advice here.
- Do not drink carbonated drinks, they will stain your teeth. NO GUM CHEWING, and avoid sticky foods such as caramels, gummy roll-ups, taffy, and tootsie rolls. Read more food advice here.
