			<< Welcome << Braces & You << Emergency Procedure In Case of Emergency Injury Emergencies Our doctor and clinical staff are available for you in the event of an injury emergency after normal business hours. Should you have an emergency and require our assistance after hours, please call our office at 603-898-4722. Our recorded message will provide you with the telephone number of the doctor who is on call. Call the doctor and leave a message if you should reach their voicemail. He or she will return your call as soon as possible to assist you. Discomfort and Breakage Emergencies Occasionally, an orthodontic patient may experience a problem such as a broken brace, broken expander, or a loose or poking wire. We do supply wax to our patients that may be used to cover an irritating brace or wire, however, we understand that there are instances when more assistance is necessary. Please call us immediately if something has broken or if you have a problem with a wire, brace, or appliance. We make every effort to assist our patients if something is causing discomfort. During regular business hours, we will schedule an emergency appointment for you. This will generally be a short appointment in order to make you comfortable and remove and/or secure the bracket, appliance or wire. Since we work our emergency patients into our existing schedule, it may be necessary to schedule a longer appointment at a later date in order to rebond loose or missing braces, or replace a broken appliance. Common Emergencies Even our most careful patients occasionally have some damage to their appliances. Here's what to do: A small wire breaks - usually you can just remove this. If not, have an adult take a pencil eraser and push the "pokey" wire out of the way. If that doesn't take care of it, place some wax or buffer over it. Please call our office. If you are not in discomfort we will probably fix it at your next visit, but we need to know to schedule the right amount of time. A band or bracket comes loose from the tooth - call us right away (even if you're away from home) a loose band can get food caught under it. This can cause decay very quickly. A main arch wire breaks - this is the big wire that goes all the way around your braces. Call us right away, we will need to schedule an emergency appointment.
