			<< Welcome << Braces & You << Your First Day In Braces Your First Day In Braces Now that your banding appointment is over, you are likely to experience some of these common concerns during your first steps on the road to your beautiful new smile. Common Concerns My teeth are sore Now that you have started orthodontic treatment your teeth are already starting to move slightly. You may have some soreness. Your cheeks may also need to adapt to the edges of your new braces. For a few days they too may also have some soreness. You may also have these same experiences following any visit to tighten your braces or have a new wire placed. Here are some helpful tips to make you more comfortable for the first few days: Rinse with fluoride a couple of times each day Place (overnight) wax or a buffer over "pokey or scratchy" areas Take Ibuprofen or Tylenol^® as recommended for your age and weight Keep positive! Your soreness should be gone in 2 to 4 days The elastics are making my mouth sore Usually after about 2 days any discomfort from your elastics disappears. But if you leave them off "because it feels better", you have done exactly the wrong thing! Hang in there! My teeth feel loose If your teeth feel a little loose, it is normal. Once your teeth have moved to their new position they will tighten up again naturally. Avoiding these foods can actually keep your braces from breaking! Please review that list today and as often as you need to to keep these offending items out of your diet.
